Is it really?
"Happiness only real when shared" (Krakauer 189).
Fool or Inspiration?
The question has always been how can happiness be created and what makes a person happy. In this case Chris was alone for longer than anyone could imagine. He knows what it feels like to try to be happy and share it with people and try to be happy and physically cannot share it with anyone.
So because of this Chris must know what real happiness feels like. He came from a neglected family and when happiness comes he truly knows the feeling. The question throughout the book has been if Chris was an inspiration or was he just a fool to drop everything and leave society as a whole. Through his experiences we can all learn that yes alone time is much needed but that you will never be truly happiness unless you share that happiness with someone else. For this reason and this reason only Chris is a huge inspiration.

You have the power to control YOUR life
You have the power to control YOUR life
To symbolize the complete severance from his previous life, he even adopted a new name. No longer would he answer to Chris McCandless; he was now Alexander Supertramp, master of his own destiny (Krakauer 23).
The Dynamics of Family
To symbolize the complete severance from his previous life, he even adopted a new name. No longer would he answer to Chris McCandless; he was now Alexander Supertramp, master of his own destiny (Krakauer 23).
The Dynamics of Family
Chris wanted nothing to do with his old life. He hated the
way his parents raised him. He would do everything in his power to not be associated
with them. He believed that he had to go as far as to change both his first and
last name to release the burden that was put upon him by his parents. By
changing his name he could find the escape that he had been looking for. For
the Supertramp part, Alex loved to tramp around, and he wanted to be known as
the greatest tramper ever so that is where the super part came from. Chris
changing his name gave him some freedom that was never given by his parents as
well as the feeling of relief that he had no longer needed to be paired
together with his past due to his name. This gave the McCandless family a very
interesting dynamic.

Just know that...
This is the last you shall hear from me Wayne…If this adventure proves fatal and you don’t ever hear from me again I want you to know you’re a great man. I now walk into the wild"(Krakauer 69). Is Alex really an inspiration or is he just a fool who seeks
attention? What kind of person would drop everything he has to go on an extremely
dangerous trip into the abyss? Alex
would, he did it to break free completely from his corrupt and mean parents. He
loved his sister but the severity of his parents was just too much for him to
handle. He was all grown up and was living a life of his owns except for that
fact that whatever he did something would remind him of his parents. He
believed the only plausible way to get away would be to drop everything and get
in touch with the wild. He did not do it in hopes of dying or hopes that it
would be a fun trip. He did it for a simple reason, to break free that his
parents had set up him from when we was just a kid. He is truly an inspiration
for everyone to learn that you can change things, its just not always easy.
